Killing and Murder

The term used in most bibles for murder is "kill" which is not a correct translation. The translation error is most likely due to translation prejudice.

Exodus 20:13 "Thou shall not murderH7523."

Exodus 21:12-15 "He that smites a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death. And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee. But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbor, to slay him with guile; thou shall take him from mine altar, that he may die. And he that smites his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death."

Exodus 22:2 "If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him."

If you killed a thief in your home you were not put to death for it.

Deuteronomy 5:17 "Thou shall not murder."

Luke 22:35-38 "And he [Christ] said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. ..... And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough."

Notice that Christ encouraged the ownership of a weapon for self defense.
